Ruvimbonashe Chigiji

Justice, Law, and Policy Program Intern

Ruvimbonashe Chigiji is a Junior Political Science Major, following the Pre-Law track, and minoring in Legal studies at the national treasure, Morgan State University. Amid her matriculation at Morgan State University she has held a place within dean's list for every academic semester.

Her ambition for civic engagement presented early through her lived experiences as a young Black Woman, living in a marginalized community, and witnessing the impact that disproportionate opportunities, and institutionalized systems has had on her peers. Her realization has fueled her drive to wishing to progress into law and civic activity to advocate legislatively, and legally for the change and growth of such communities.

She began her work early in high school through political canvassing and poll work at Elizabeth Crowley for Queens borough President, and Elizabeth Crowley for Senate, by hearing first-hand what the varying communities of Queens deem priority. As well as participation in youth civic internships, such as Sadie-Nash and Yvote. While during her time at Morgan State she has fellowshipped for the pro-democracy nonprofit CommonCause, to share election information upon her collegiate campus.

As well as the New-York based legal nonprofit, The Peer Defense Project, in order to provide legal assistance to people of marginalized identity, and to administer free paralegal courses to marginalized youths. \n\nAs a Morgan State undergraduate she is has embedded herself within the campus atmosphere by venturing into various, politically focused, and community serving organizations such as the National Council of Negro Women, Pre-Law association, Political science association, Membership Chair, and Vice-President elect of Black Girls Vote, Vice Delegate Chairperson, and Delegate Chairperson-elect of Maryland Student Legislature Morgan State Chapter.

Within these organizations she has promoted the necessity in voting, advancing herself and others comprehension of the law, and becoming an active member in the Baltimore community scene. Servicing at food pantries, community garden work, horticulturist work, and mentorship with primary school students.

Ruvimbonashe’s commitment, drive, and unwavering passion for social reform that provides success to marginalized parties renders her an agent of revolutionary transformation. One that she quotes “will never flame out.”
