As you know, we have been hard at work trying to defeat SB 456, the anti-medication abortion bill introduced in the Georgia Legislature a few weeks ago. SB 456 would make abortion even more inaccessible. SB 456 focuses on medication abortion, which is a safe, accessible, and effective means of getting an abortion. SB 456 passed through the Senate. It is currently in the House and has been assigned to The Health and Human Services Committee. SB 456 could be in committee as soon as this week. Crossover day is March 15, 2022. Crossover day is the deadline for a piece of legislation to pass out of the chamber it was introduced in and "cross over" to the other. If a bill doesn't pass either House or Senate by the end of Crossover Day, it is considered "dead" for the rest of the session.
As a Reproductive Justice organization, we stand steadfast in our belief that all Georgians should have access to abortion care services. Visit our Abortion Justice Action Center.
We would like you to contact Representatives Sharon Cooper and David Ralston and voice your opinion on SB 456. If you are, like many supporters of reproductive justice, against another abortion ban, tell them that you are a constituent and that you have been following this bill in the Senate and that you hope that they won't allow it to pass. Please be respectful but make your voices heard! We’ve attached an SB 456 bill explainer and action tips for your convenience.
Sharon Cooper
Call House Rep. Sharon Cooper at 404-656-5069 and ask her not to hold a hearing on SB 456, a bill that would ban providing medication abortion by mail or telehealth. The science does NOT support this bill, and it would have harmful unintended consequences – especially as abortion access becomes increasingly restricted, leaving fewer and fewer safe options for people determined to end unwanted pregnancies.
David Ralston
Call House Speaker David Ralston at 404-656-5020 and ask him to oppose SB 456, a bill that would ban providing medication abortion by mail or telehealth. Tell him that we know his opinion and leadership matters to the rest of the House and that the science does NOT support this bill. Additionally, it would have harmful unintended consequences – especially as abortion access becomes increasingly restricted, fewer and fewer safe options for people determined to end unwanted pregnancies.
Your Own Legislator
Contact your State Representative and ask them to vote no on SB 456, a bill that would ban providing medication abortion by mail or telehealth. Tell them that the science does NOT support this bill, and it would have harmful unintended consequences – especially as abortion access becomes increasingly restricted, leaving fewer and fewer safe options for people determined to end unwanted pregnancies.
