The Supreme Court is Trying to Kill Abortion Rights. Here's What You Need to Know About Roe v Wade

You've probably seen the news by now. A leaked draft opinion (and we emphasize, that it's a draft) suggests the Supreme Court will overturn Roe in June and allow individual states to limit or ban abortion access.

What You Can Do Now

Since there is A LOT of misinformation out there, please know and share the factual information below:

  1. ABORTION IS STILL LEGAL. The news is about a draft opinion that was leaked. A final decision is expected in June and it may look different. It is too early to report on the final decision.

  2. Even if the Court does decide to overturn Roe, abortion will NOT suddenly be illegal nationwide. Many states will maintain or expand abortion access. Unfortunately, however, 13 states will immediately ban abortion, and more than half could severely restrict access. Here's a breakdown of what happens if Roe is overturned in June.

  3. This draft opinion is an outright attack on people who need abortion and a dramatic miscalculation of the important role abortion care plays in the lives of so many.

  4. What can we do today? We organize. We share resources. We share factual information. WE PREPARE TO FIGHT FOR those who already face barriers to care and will continue to be the most impacted by the decimation of abortion access.

Taking Action

The fastest, most impactful action you can take right now is to share what we're putting out on social media and support RJ organizations on the frontlines, especially the ones on this Tweet thread and this Instagram carousel (Retweet/Reshare this on your feed/story- or feel free to screenshot and post yourself. Be sure to tag us @sisterloveinc).

Protecting abortion access will take an all-hands-on-deck effort — Congress and the President must join the fight to enact all measures in their power, including passing WHPA to broadly protect abortion access.

The final decision, anticipated for June, may look different. Already, organizers are hard at work trying to shift one or more justices in the majority opinion. But we know, and have known for a long time, that the decision in Dobbs is likely to be a drastic blow to abortion rights and access.

SisterLove and others will not let abortion access become a thing of the past, no matter what the Court ultimately decides. We will continue to fight the restrictions and to center the needs of women, particularly women of color from low-income communities.

But we cannot do it alone. We need everyone to join the fight at every level. Right now, abortion is still legal, and people in our communities need it.

You can help increase access to abortion right now by Donating To SisterLove.
