Fast-Track Cities: Accelerating Atlanta’s AIDS Response
SisterLove Inc. and the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC) are co-sponsoring a Town Hall Reception on Atlanta becoming a Fast-Track City. The reception will take place on Monday, June 18th at 6:30 P.M at the AmericasMart Convention Center, 240 Peachtree St NW Suite K, Atlanta, GA 30303. The reception will feature an overview of the Fast-Track Cities initiative, a global initiative of over 250 municipalities committed to accelerating their local AIDS responses, which will be delivered by Dr. José M. Zuniga., President/Chief Executive Officer of IAPAC. Stakeholders from three Fast-Track Cities, Oakland, Denver, and New Orleans, will be in attendance to share their experiences and engage in dialogue with Atlanta colleagues on progress they have made as a Fast-Track City. The reception will conclude with an update on the Atlanta/Fulton County HIV/AIDS Strategy and a community discussion on Atlanta’s next steps as a potential Fast-Track City.
BACKGROUND
What are Fast-Track Cities?
Fast-Track Cities is a global partnership between high HIV burden cities and four core partners - The International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and the City of Paris.
Since its launch on World AIDS Day 2014 in the City of Paris, over 250 municipalities in every region of the world have signed the Paris Declaration on Fast-Track Cities Ending the AIDS Epidemic, pledging to accelerate their local AIDS responses to achieve the following targets by 2020:
90% of people living with HIV (PLHIV) knowing their HIV status
90% of PLHIV who know their HIV-positive status on antiretroviral therapy (ART)
90% of PLHIV on ART achieving viral suppression
Zero stigma and discrimination
