Abortion Access was Just Denied to Millions of Women. Here's What We're Going to Do About it.

SisterLove's Statement on SCOTUS Overturning Roe V. Wade

The Supreme Court made a decision today to extinguish the constitutional guarantee to accessing legal abortions.

By choosing to overturn this legal precedent there is a lasting impact on the human and civil rights of birthing people.

Before the leak, we knew we were on a downward spiral in the terms of reproductive rights, gender oppression, the protection of our rights, our bodily autonomy and legal access to abortion. Particularly for Black folk, existing governing structures have not existed to protect our rights nor our autonomy.

We are constantly fighting against a host of -isms, not limited to sexism, racism, and imperialism. This decision is just another example of the ongoing violence against Black bodies.

Without abortion access, many lives will be devastated. What we know still is that trans or nonbinary pregnant people, Indigenous pregnant people, Black pregnant people, Latin pregnant people, Asian/Pacific Islander pregnant people, and any pregnant person, are going to experience the restrictions, the lack of access, and the illegal opportunities for abortion services are going to be exponential.

This country is not ready for the public health impact and damage that this Court is doing, not just to the pregnant person but their families, and their communities, and quite frankly, to the Democracy of this country.

We mourn with the people of not only Mississippi but all over this nation. We at SisterLove will continue fighting for a future in which we are fully liberated. We will not stop fighting until Reproductive Justice is the law of the land.

SisterLove, Inc has fought to protect the reproductive health and rights of women and birthing persons for over 33 years. While we face a historic setback, we will continue to fight, mobilize, and fiercely advocate for abortion access for all.
