r v i c e s The need for transitional housing for persons living with HIV/AIDS is considerable. Many women living with HIV not only need a place to call home, but also need a kind of support that only comes from those who understand the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS. SisterLove's housing program provides safe, affordable and supportive living for single women living with HIV, HIV positive mothers and their children. Two comfortable homes , located on slightly less than two acres in SW Atlanta, serve as residence for those in transition. LoveHouse I is dedicated for women living with HIV, while LoveHouse II is home for HIV positive mothers and their children. Women at LoveHouse receive invaluable peer support and services that reinforce their personal strengths and broaden their perspectives. While living at LoveHouse, women participate in workshops, meetings and leadership trainings that encourage personal development and augment life management skills. HIV+ women participate fully in our housing program by serving as mentors and role models for each other. SisterLove recognizes and celebrates the wisdom and skills each woman brings to the Program. We could not do, what we do, without their gifts. Following are brief descriptions of the transitional housing and support services provided by SisterLove. S U P P O R T G R O U P S F O R C H I L D R E N SisterLove provides weekly support groups children residing at LoveHouse II. This special structured time provides children an opportunity for focused sharing and play. Support group meetings are designed to help children explore their feelings with children who share many of their own experiences. Through structured play therapy and focused intervention, children gain inner strength and learn invaluable coping skills. They learn that they are not alone and that being a child who is affected by HIV does not diminish who they are or limit what they can achieve. The lessons learned from peers and therapists encourages and supports children as they try to make sense of a world that isn't always kind or easy. These lessons serve the children of SisterLove long after they leave LoveHouse II. For more information contact Dazon Dixon Diallo at 404-753-7733 or by E-mail. |
